Some words from our stay last weekend. Primarily went as our daughter has been wanting to visit after watching too much Paddington and JoJo and Gran Gran.
Had booked 2 nights on points, 55000 in total with suite upgrade away to a Park Suite River View room for the stay.
Cash rate for that room is ~£1200 per night.
Didn't receive a typical pre-arrival contact you'd usually get so I contacted the GM who put me in touch with guest relations who were very helpful with a couple of requests and even offered in providing a pregnancy pillow for my partner who at the time of visit was 30 weeks pregnant.
Check in
Check in was a really poor experience, won't go into too much detail but considering the correspondence I'd had with the hotel prior to staying it was not good.. The GM has since been in contact to apologise for the service we received.
Room
We were in 1010, which had a great view of the river, and the tower next door which was seemingly completely unoccupied, despite the lights being on in a number of rooms all day and night.
A few good and gripe observations about the room.
Hard product within the room is very nice.
The sofa is definitely style of substance.
I'm not a fan of black wood in general, much like Grand Hyatt Berlin, kind of brings the tone of the room down a bit too much.
The hooks for the robes in the bathroom are a mile away from the shower.
I think the air con worked, honestly couldn't really tell, the fan speed didn't change the audibility of the system, so maybe it was just silent.
Their were no plug sockets in the dressing room area, so you can't use the hairdryer or straighteners or any other paraphernalia in front of the large mirror in the dressing room. There was a socket in the bedroom just around the corner of the door into the bathroom so if your appliance has a long enough cable you'd be okay to use the mirror in there. But just bizarre for there to be no socket in the dressing room.
The sliding doors for the bedroom - living room and the toilet - bathroom slide the whole way into the frame. So the handles disappear! The only easy way to pull them back out is to try and pull the door from the top where there is space in the frame. Baffling there isn't a stopper inside the frame to stop the doors sliding all the way in.
Toto toilet worked great, much to the amusement of our 4 year old.
Blaise Mautin toiletries are very nice.
Yes I'm going to go there because this is something that winds me up no end, just make the mini bar inclusive. Stick an extra £20 on the room rate or what ever, there's a little Tesco 2 minutes walk away, a Waitrose 7 minutes walk. Charging £10 for a beer which is less than £3 at Waitrose or £30 for non-alcoholic sparkling wine when it's under a tenner is just bleugh. But maybe I'm just bitter and willing to suffer a few minutes stroll down the road.
Facilities
We were not there long enough to make use of the spa or pool, but from what people have posted on FT it does look very impressive in particular the pool, which does have family / children times. If we return in the future we'll be sure to check it out.
The reception are and bar lounge are very nice, loads of natural light from the huge glass frontage, stylish and comfortable seating.
Service
Other than the check in farce service was good. Everyone was welcoming and attentive, the door staff of which there seemed to be at least 4 at any time in particular were great.
Dining
I don't go to London often or ever, so I can't compare breakfast to other hotels there, I'd say breakfast was good, not at an incredible level. The quality of the buffet selection was good and the menu choices are extensive. It seemed pretty quiet in there when we were there but service was excellent, offering to get extra drinks, replacing cutlery promptly, clearing the table etc.
We had in room dining one evening, daughter wolfed down the mac and cheese, I had lamb chops which were delicious and came with a very generous side of fries and mixed veg. Clearly I'm getting old but the veg was actually really well cooked.
Location
Again don't go to London often but we didn't have a problem with the location. We did get a Wheely from Euston to the hotel initially because we didn't know how busy the underground would be, but we did get the underground on the return to Euston and it wasn't stressful at all. Our daughter loves public transport and Vauxhall and Nine Elms stations are a few minutes walk away, so really easy to get to all the sights, even with a change at Victoria. There is a couple of bus stops around the corner either side with multiple routes and Vauxhall bus station.
Overall
Wouldn't hesitate staying here again. Maybe for longer next time to make use of he facilities more.
