Lovely birthday gift today for me, I have no idea how it even happened, but come back to my car today to see this -

I am at a total loss to even know how someone managed to hit my car like this, I mean its just disgraceful.

Thing is, even if I claimed on insurance - its £250 excess plus £100 voluntary and even then they will cancel a few years, so looks like I'm forking out for this from my own pocket.

i'm not very happy to say the least. My car is immaculate, or it was. No idea who did it. Was in one of those public car parks, CCTV ?? dunno even if there was would the police even bother to investigate?

It looks more like the car in the picture has rubbed against bollard/wall/skip or something given the location and colouring of the marks

Like I said, I just have no idea... I thought it looked like a skip as well. There was an area a bit further down the road where they or it looked like they were doing some road repairs, so heavy plant kicking about, but why would something like that enter a public carpark?

I am like ??? with the whole thing..

how deep are the scratches? look like light ones to me from the pictures, is it possible that a new light and a machine polish?

Also sorry to see it, but people seam to be that way!!

It's left a dent in the quarter panel, I have managed to t cut out all the marks, its shown a small area where paint has gone to the plastic. So that's a shame, but for now it's cleaned it up, and I'll fit a new light as eBay sell them for less then £50...

Cant be that hard to fit...

Unusual colour, have you seen any AA vans near your car today?

dont recall seeing any, but as I mentioned, road works a little further up the road so I think they had those tarmac removing plant machinery etc... I actually thought it looked like one of those poles painted yellow that has car barriers etc... But thats not what happened. I just left it parked, went to get some shopping came back and even found the broken light bits smashed on the ground... I was parked in one of those end places, so cars would I guess drive past, its just so weird.

Man that sucks. Even if it comes out looking OK, it's always in the back of your mind that the car isn't perfect condition anymore. Really frustrating when you try to look after something and some **** does this.

I remember coming back to my car a few years ago to find the front end caved in. Looked like somebody with a towbar had reversed into it with some force, then just driven off!
Some people are *****.

I saw someone messing up a reverse out of a space a few years back. They couldn't figure out how to deal with the front left of their car moving outwards (right hand down) into the car parked to their left. After a couple of goes where they lightly hit the neighboring vehicle, third go involved pushing up against it then gunning the throttle to force her car past.

I was in the process of leaving a note on the damaged car (an immaculate 10-year old Corsa) when the owners, an old couple, came back, so I handed over the details. They managed to make a claim through the insurances, but were only able to because I filled in the witness form (perpetrator denied it - ****). The old couple sent me a really nice thankyou letter afterwards :)

Anyway, stuff like this is why I would find it too stressful to have a properly decent car.

Easy peasy. Remove the little carpeted hatch in the boot behind the lights, undo the three nuts holding the outer cluster in, and then pull it out. It has a locating pin on the front-most part of the light (where it goes into the quarter panel) so it'll need a bit of wriggling.

Took it to a guy I know, he's done work for me before and is very good at his work, he said that its about £375 to get it fixed including the light cluster.

He said apart from the dent, and the missing paint on the bumper, once you'd removed the heavy marks its not all that bad. He did say a lot of his work recently is coming from cars being marked whilst parked in public car parks, so its quite common. first time its happened to me, but doesn't make it right.
