Parking fine harsh?

http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/engla...hen_your_car_can_be_clamped_or_towed_away.htm

"If someone clamps your car because you have broken the parking rules, they commit a criminal offence if they intend to make it difficult or impossible for your to move your own car, even if they don’t charge a release fee."

So yes - basically if they tow your car they are committing an offence.

Almost a shame you got it sorted really, would have been fun to get them done for stealing your car (although I guess more hassle for you :p)

Speak to the guys on 'pepipoo' for advice because "just ignoring it" these days isn't the recommended route (always used to be, times are changing since POPLA was introduced in October 2012).

I'm sure it will amount to nothing however just ensure you've appealed against it and you want a POPLA defence.

Who is the company that is attempting to charge you?

This. Do your homework.

It's never advisable to even contest the fine, by doing so you may accept their authority to prosecute the fine. Ignore any and all correspondence. Wait for the possible summons. If it ever even to get to court you're only legally obligated to reimburse the lost revenues on the avoided parking. Nothing else.

Only the local authority i.e. council etc can legally tow a vehicle for fine nonpayment.

Other than 'absolutely none whatsoever' what right does a private parking company have to enforce the display of a vehicle excise license on a windscreen?

This is exactly what I was thinking, what an utterly ridiculous ticket.

Well it is interesting about the towing as I talked to the upstairs neighbour last night. Seems his car isn't the only one to have been towed in the past.

They towed another one, again I can't say if it was this firm or the council whilst the owner was in hospital. It was apparently disposed of.

The owner was an ex taxi driver and still had some valuables in it including his licence etc for taxi driving. He sued the landlord and got quite a lot of money back, several thousands. Of course this is second hand information so I cannot confirm it and it happened well before I lived here.

To be honest the car park has room for about 15 cars and there is never more than about 3 or 4 in there so I don't know why they are so hot on it.
