Parking - is this allowed?

Hi,

Just wondered if anybody knew what the rules were surrounding blocking access to driveways etc. because I'm getting sick of the situation we are currently in.

Basically, the people over the road seem intent on parking across their 4x4 across the entrance to their drive all the time, which means that we can't get in to the drive from one direction without going and turning round, and it makes reversing out a nightmare.

They are normally parked between the red car currently there and where the 4x4 is at the moment.

Before I go and have a word with them, is what they are doing legal? I do know it's extremely annoying and I wish they'd have some consideration - there are loads of places they could park without blocking anybody from using their driveways properly.

No marking on the road, he's not parked on the path, the cars are parked on the correct side of the road for when it gets dark, he's not really blocking your access (as in parked infront of your drive), can't see it being wrong in the eyes of the law.

Park on the road outside your house for a bit, see how they like it :)

Tempted but they'll still park it right across their driveway. Shame I can't park across ours when they're out to prove a point as that isn't legal.

You parked there first, when someone knocks on and complains, send them over the road :)

i dont see a problem there really :) its not as if there parking outside your drive ...on your side. surley it is easy to reverse park into your drive? makes it easier and safer to get out then.

:)

Cant really see any problem

He has to reverse/forward and repeat the manouvre a couple of times before he can even think about getting out of his driveway, where as when there is no car parked there, he can simply reverse back and then drive off.

/edit - BTW, they're not doing anything illegal so i think the only way to resolve it would be to have a polite word :)

Exactly :(

They haven't done anything wrong really. If anything, you are in the wrong for reversing out.

Do both cars belong to them, if so i'd ask them to park the megane infront of the landy, should give you more room to get out?

The red Scenic thing isn't normally there, annoyingly they've changed the 'layout' slightly today when I actually bothered to take a photo.

Usually the Discovery is parked in the middle of the two - i.e. right across their driveway (and therefore directly opposite ours). If they left the Discovery where it is or parked it where the Scenic is then it wouldn't be a problem.

No real ground to stand on. Maybe have a polite conversation and ask if possible could they park elsewhere to make things a bit easier. If they don't play ball, I would just live with it. There are no road markings to prevent parking on either side although the council might be interested if they're causing an obvious obstruction. I doubt anything would work if they were ignorant to your plee though.

You could however torch that caravan to give them some more room on the drive.

Ah ok, bit of a skim read on the OP and just went off the pictures, In that case if the landy is right across the front of his driveway i'd be tempted to say he is indeed blocking your drive access, however if he was to park as in the pictures then i don't see an issue.

I'd have a quick word and ask why he parks infront of his drive, it might be so his caravan or van doesn't get stolen at night.
