Hi Guys!

I spoke to Honda about installing rear parking sensors in my Civic (56 reg). they quoted £450 inc installation which seems a bit steep.

Can anyone recommend any specialists who install quality sensors at a sensible price? I was hoping for around the £250 mark.

I don't want to install them myself given that it involves drilling through the bumpers etc.

Cheers!

Why do you all of a sudden want rear sensors, when you've gone fine without them?

I've found they don't help me to park at all. The beeps distract me from quality parrallel parking. The only time they were useful was when I parked the X5 which was a pain doing it in London's narrow and congested roads :o

Just bought the car and its for the Mrs...its either a small investment right now or regular chips/dings in the future..definitely need them!

It's quite a simple job to fit them yourself, and thus you'll pay about £45 for the set and nothing else. The hardest part is drilling the holes and lining them up, but it's up to you

im making one for a DT project. price of components/materials are about £45.
complete with L/R sensors, LCD and LED bars for distance.

just food for thought...

You can buy a set for about £30.

Or you can spend £80 on electromagnetic jobbies that go behind your bumper, may take a bit longer to fit, but probably considered easier.

I'm currently contemplating one or the other for the ST, I think the ultrasonic sensors are bloody good value, but not sure if I want to drill my bumper, plus, they can't get you as close as you might like, I think its something like 40cm before they give up and have a fit.

I can put you in touch with someone who will be able to help you out.

Where about in the country are you located?

The "Hidden strip" type sensors are hopeless. They dont work in wet weather

The £30 kits are also rubbish. Cheap heads and cheap components with a high rate of failure.

I'm still getting use to the tones 2 years after buying my ST :p. Beeps like mad, hope out expecting to be closer than you actually are.

If she can't park a mid-sized hatch without dinging it maybe it'd be cheaper to pay her to take some more lessons?

You'd be surprised how many people can't park the smallest of cars. I swear theres a matiz at work with parking sensors :D My mums fine going foward, i think the reverse gear on her AUTO might be dry rotted though.

Seriously?

I know reverse parking can be a big sometimes but jesus...

My Transit and my Combo had them but they didn't have rear view mirrors. Movana didn't have them and in a year I crashed it a total of 0 times with no rear visability.

Fair enough if it really will make it easier to park but I can't see how it gets much easier than parking a hatchback

Some people are hopeless at parking, my g/f's mum reversed into my g/f's car (on their drive) with parking sensors on!

Lmao i get people freaking out when i reverse because the parking sensor flatlines and they're expecting a bang, i think theres like a foot left to go :D. I didn't even know my car had it until i engaged reverse with someone standing close behind me a day after i bought it, i started wondering what that beeping was.

It amuses when phrases like "learn to park" pop up in discussions about parking sensors.

In five years of driving small hatch backs, coupes, large saloons, an LDV Luton, a LWB Transit, A Bedford 500 Pickup - I've been able to park and manoeuvre all of these without hitting anything, that isn't to say that my job parking on a busy road on a Saturday wouldn't be made easier with some parking sensors to aid me in using as much of the space available to me as possible.

Anyone who has even tried to park a MK2 Focus will surely understand the inconsistent perception of depth/length the car gives you.

I could make use of them, parallel parking my car twice a day can sometimes be a bummer, those electromagnetic sensors with no need for holes in the bumper look very interesting.
