Got this in the post today... wasn't given a ticket by a warden, so it must have been from a camera - however:

As you can see from the scan below, it quite clearly states that the amount payable is *blank* and if I pay it within 21 days it will be reduced to "£0.00"

So where exactly do I stand legally? I don't want to ring them up as they'll probably issue another ticket with an amount, and don't want to try paying "£0.00" online as i'm guessing it won't accept that and they'll issue another one... But if I sit tight i'll lose the right to pay a smaller amount (whatever that might be?)

Any ideas??

As you can see it's even left blank on the 2nd mention of a full amount

Who was it issued by? The council?

Personally I would do exactly what it says and pay nothing. If they come back to you, at the least you have grounds for appeal.

Send a cheque for £0.00 within the 21 days to satisfy the demand and accept the offer of the "reduced" amount?

Personally, I'd pay it.

It quite clearly says, if you pay it early within the 28 day period, it will cost you £0.00

That's a written contract.

i would send them a cheque of £0.00 and if they complain then you have the official letter stating that you have to pay nothing and if they try take you to court they wouldnt have a leg to stand on cause they messed up. I would go see a legal adviser before you do anything though and see what would happen if you did send them a cheque for nothing or if you didnt pay it.

I would personally send 3 items satisfying the letter;

- A cheque for £0.00 to payee stated
- A covering letter stating that my cheque is enclosed within the 21 days for the amount stated referencing the penalty notice, and that i trust the matter is now settled.
- A photocopy of the original penalty notice.

Excellent, however as i've never written a cheque for £0.00, do I write "nil" on the written line below? Will this stand as a payment, be it nothing at all?

Zero Pounds and Zero Pence.

0-00 in the monetary bit.

They can't cash it, so what it says is somewhat irrelevant.

Or you could just write on your enclosing letter "I attach cash to the amount of £0.00" :)

Only problem is they don't accept cash... not really a problem as I see it because i'd be laughed out the bank if I tried to withdraw £0.00
