Parking ticket issue

Hi guys, just looking for a bit of advice in regards to a parking ticket I got.

A couple of months back, I went to Manchester. Noticed a smallish car park in the area I wanted to be in, so rather than drive round looking for a better spot I just opted for that. I went and bought my ticket, went back to the car and displayed it on the dashboard just like the sign on the ticket machine said.

Fast forward a couple of hours and I come back to find a big yellow ticket stamped across my windscreen. I check it and the reason for the ticket is "failure to display a parking ticket".

Now, admittedly the ticket was slightly faded but you could still make out the number/details (and it wasn't as if I was going to slam another fiver in the machine in the hope of a better printed ticket!) so as you can imagine I was fairly riled up.

I got home and wrote a brief but polite notice explaining I had paid for a ticket but it was slightly faded etc (I scanned it in and printed a copy off - you could still see the details even then!). A week later I get a reply saying that the ticket i'd sent to them was for a council car park and the one I had parked in was private. Now, it was only a small car park, there were no others nearby, the ticket machine was literally 3 meters from my car and i'd also noticed a good 3-4 people using the same machine when I was going back and forth - a pretty good indication that was the machine to use!

They go on to say the ticket wasn't valid for the area I parked in - yet the area they state on the letter is about 8-9 miles from the car park I was actually in!

They are saying they will "honour the early paying price of £50" if I pay it now and then the usual rubbish about bailifs etc if I don't (which is what makes me think they're just hoping that people will pay up) - but I don't see why I should. Am I likely to get any grief off these people if I don't pay up?

The company in question is Stop Illegal Parking but I can't find anything about them on Google.

Thanks.

Sorry to bump an old topic but i've had a few more letters since then going on about how the fine is increasing etc due to non-payment which i've ignored. I've had another one today saying they're going to take me to court to get a CCJ against me, is there any chance of this actually happening as i'm in the process of buying a house and could do without any negative credit etc. Cheers.

It is not a fine. It is just an invoice for an alleged debt that you do not owe.

Unless they actually send you stamped county court papers then you should carry on ignoring their letters.

To get a CCJ and affect your credit rating they must:

1) Actually issue court papers.
2) Win in court. (They can't win a properly defended case.)
3) You fail to pay within the time allowed after the judgement.

proof if ever it was required that these operations are just a bunch of cowboys.

dont worry untill you actually get court papers through.

its one of the oldest trick in the books is this one. Like sending people who dont pay a letter telling them that due to non payment their "collections" department will arrange to visit you, at your house on thursday.

They never give a date mine, as you'll only get a phonecall. But that sentance is deliberately worded to make you think they are sending bailiffs and ring straight up and pay.

lol, standard operating procedure for these mugging ****s. This is just to try and scare you into paying. Eventually they'll get bored.

They like going after the easy targets (ie. the people who pay up straight away without a fuss). They can't be bothered to take people to court as:

A) They're going to lose
B) It costs them hundreds of pounds to do this.

exactly

for every 1 person who stands their ground and refuses to pay, there are 10 who ring and pay up and get scared.

They dont need to pay the court fees for that one person (not that they'd want to as they'd loose) when they have 10 for every one queing up to hand over the money.
