Heyyyy,

Got a letter today from the council stating that i owe them 70 pound for a parking penalty. The reason it's 70 is because I didn't pay with in 28 days, which is odd because I havn't recieved a parking ticket for over a year. The only thing I can imagine is that it was taken off or the wind blew it away. The area I live in is a permit to park area and I forgot to put a temporary permit on and obviously they got me early in the morning on a sunday and by the time I went to drive the car it was gone...

Is there anyway I contest the 70 pound fine because I never recieved any notification through the post or the ticket on the car. I mean, obviously I owe the £30 pound fine as I was caught fair and square but with no warning or notifications nearer the 28 day price rise, it seems a bit harsh.

Im going to phone them up tomorrow and tell them my situation but was just wondering if anyone had been in a similar situation.

Cheers,

Jack

not much you can do i think

you comitted the crime, but for whatever reason didnt get the ticket in time.

Just pay it before it gets any higher. When you ring up you could always enquire as to how the ticket was issued and see if they have any procedure for scenarios like this ?

Go and speak to the council in person. Why girlfriend got a ticket for parking somewhere at work that she was told was okay to use for free and refused to pay. At the end of the day the person who told her to park there was talking crud and by the time she found out it had doubled to £70.

She went to the local council building asked to speak to someone who reduced it down and she paid £30 then and there.

On the phone they can just constantly fob you off and through you from person to person. She was in and out of the local council building in 15mins.

It's certainly worth speaking to them and explaining that this is the first you've heard about the ticket and would they offer you the opportunity to pay the reduced rate. They probably hear it all the time but you never know.

Grrrrr!! I live on a resident permit street but i cant have a permit because they only give 2 per house hold. We get these visitor day permits (25 for £5) but if they run out i have to be out every 4 hours to top up the ticket on my car.

Fancy that? Having to pay and display for parking outside your own house!? Stupid council ggrrrrr!!!

Thank god my next house has private secure, and FREE parking.

Yeah, does kinda rub me up the wrong way getting a parking ticket for parking outside you're own house, but i just genuinely forgot to put a temp permit out, i spoke to my sister last night and she has a mate who works in this department of the council so i'll give her a ring and see what she can do... Cheers.
