PARP ALERT

How odd. What does task manager say? In the performance monitor, are all 8 cores being used at 75% or are there 2 cores idle? Is anything else using the other 25%?

Is VMWare definitely seeing all your cores? If it is a Linux distro you are using you can run Top and it should show you the process list and CPU usage.

The notfred images tend to tell you how many cores it detects when it starts up. Check it is seeing 8.

I'm at a loss mate. The under usage is definitely stifling your output but I'm at a loss as to why it's doing it

It says 8 on the console.

I've got the problem isolated to a single stick of RAM now, or so I hope. I'm back up on the remaining two sticks for the moment, and have submitted an RMA ticket thing to OCZ, but I'm still waiting to hear if I'll need to send off all three (which might be safest but would also stop me folding for a week or more ) or just to send off the faulty one.

This is the thing. I'm hoping they don't say send all three off. Also, their headquarters are in NL so hopefully they have a pickup depot in England or post could get slightly more complicated/expensive.

In other news, my housemate just brought me cake :D

A stick of RAM weighs nothing, so even if you did have to post to NL it wouldn't cost much more than recorded delivery or similar to somewhere in the UK.
