Since I've started bringing more crunchers online, I've been moving up the list. However, I have no idea how the average work done is calculated so it's hard for me to predict if I'm going to parp someone. Sorry in advance if I parped anyone without the proper notifcation :)

How long are the "average work" units calculated for? IE...when will my output be stabilized? Is it a weekly or monthly average?

It is just not that easy to predict any more since the outages started. I think that is why there isn't as many parps as there used to be, plus the stats sites are all over the place..
Keep an eye on your RAC on Monday going into the downtime and then work it out from there. Its very rough, but serves as a guideline..

As you have added lots of new machines, Id give it 4 weeks to let your average climb up and settle as it will increase steadily over the coming weeks

edit - Welcome to the team Tom - that is a nice amount of hardware that you are bringing with you :D

Dont forget to post your tiffys in the weekly news post

Thanks.. I think I used to run about seven machines. I'm a web developer/database admin and have a pretty big home network. I still have to get my son's two computers on BOINC hehe..

BTW: It looks like my income might have a big spike up in the next few months. In an ideal world, what would be your best crunching setup for say $15k to $25k? Would you get a lot of desktop systems, build barebone systems mounted on plywood like the days? I have access to a data center and could swing hanging some rack mounted units but it might be more effiicent to put them in a spare room in our house (it's a BIG house). Electricity is cheaper in the US so perhaps the data center solution is better.

Any suggestions?? :)

The data centers I use are in the US (remember I'm living in Germany now). While it's nice to make a living 100% via the internet, the downside is I don't have physical access to the data centers where my servers are.

I'd like to start putting in racks of crunchers but that will have to wait until next year I think. Desktops like these are a good start. The main thing is knowing GPUs trump CPUs.

Thanks for the advice! I'm sure as my means continue to improve and I start loading up on hardware I'll have lots of questions!

So do you know if OC UK ship to Germany? I'd rather buy from here of course :)

Good point .. are there any guidelines of what you would need to power different combinations of CPU's? Obviously the power supply also needs to supply enough power for it all.

Don't worry about it for a while... this is just planning stages now. Your rear is secure for the time being...

Can't hurt to ask. spotted this in the terms & conditions
4. Delivery
4.1 The goods you order will be delivered to the address you give when you place your order, except that some deliveries are not made outside the United Kingdom.
Just have to find out what they will not deliver to Germany. For a large order they might make an exception.
Will you have to pay import tax?
