Afternoon,

I have recently upgraded from a Q9xxx C2Q to an i5 4690K, however I need to purchase a new monitor and graphics card - my budget being £400-450.

I've been looking into 27" monitors and I believe at 1920x1080 they can be a bit sketchy compared to a 24"? However on further reading I discovered something about IPS(?) being a good shout for a 27" at that res? Some clarification and opinions would be great!

On the graphics card front I've been trawling around and it would seem a 970 is a good shout for a bit of future proofing and of course the ability to hit 60FPS in near any game, however if this is unnecessary I'd love to know.

Any input is appreciated,
Cheers :D

Lets start with some questions.

What case+PSU do you have? no good trying to run a £300 GFX card from a £10 potato, also you need to check the card physically fits inside the case.

Well the PSU needs an immediate change then,

1) They deteriorate over time
2) Hyper were also known as Hyper explosive due to how bad they were.

This makes sense, I was planning to get one before the card anyway, as I wasn't planning on acquiring the card before the end of Feb most possibly.

It has been my longest lasting PSU, at about 7 years.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 OC WindForce 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (GV-R929OC-4GD) £239.99
1 x AOC G2460FQ 24" Widescreen 144Hz 1ms Gaming LED Monitor - Gunmetal £179.99
1 x Antec TruePower Classic 550w '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply £55.99
Total : £490.07 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Is that too much?

IPS panels have great colours/contrast/blacks which are great for photography/video work, but they tend to have a slow gry to grey response time.

If you jjust game all the time with some internet browsing etc, then a TN panel like the one above will be fine and being 144Hz you get a smoother motion in games.

Thank you for taking the time!

If it could come down a bit I would appreciate it, also you couldn't possibly do me a Nvidia one?

I do indeed just game and browse all the time, so TN sounds good to me.

There are no performance numbers for it yet, what is known is that it has a reduced memory bandwith and Vram amount, games are using more and more Vram so I am 100% sure you will get a longer use from the 4Gb 970.
