I've got a question about part exchange...

What would happen if I part exchanged a car for another which was actually cheaper than the value of the car to be part exchanged? Would the garage refuse the part ex, or would they offer cash to compensate?

You would just get money back, but you will get kicked up the ******.

Only the garage can tell you this! They might swap it as a straight swap, give you cash, tell you to go away or charge you.

You probably won't get a good price on your car if they do accept it as part exchange.

Depends on the garage!

Some garages were quite interested in taking my old Saab for a shed plus cash, others werent interested at all. Garages arent obliged to offer a part ex at all

They will most likely offer you cashback IF they appraise the partex to be more than the vehicle you are interested in.

I would rather sell it privately imho as you normally make the most money that way, then go and buy the vehicle

Its a bad way of doing things though, it leaves you with very little room for negotiation
