Part payment by credit card, section 75

Hi all

Quick question, if I paid the deposit for an expensive item and service using a credit card and I pay the balance by bank transfer am I covered for the whole amount under section 75?

Thanks

Yep

Yes as long as you pay over £100 on your credit card.

The item you are purchasing has to be over £100 and under £30,000, but you could pay 1p on the C/C and still get full section 75 cover.

This one. If I remember, that figure of >£100 - <£30,000 is correct and the amount paid on CC has to be "substantive" or a word to that effect. I think it was generally recognised that this could be something of the order of >£90 and £100 became the accepted amount. Obviously it could be less if the purchase price for the item was at the lower end of the parameter.

I was told that you are protected for the full amount of the item?

So...

Car purchase - total cost of car ? £10,000 ?

you pay a an initial deposit of £100? on a credit card? and the rest either cash or bank transfer? you are protected by section 75 from the card provider, even though you only paid £100 on credit card, they will protect you for the full purchase amount of £10,000

is this right ?

Yes. As long as the total cash price is between £100 and £30k.
