First build in 15 or so years so struggling!

In terms of the power to the motherboard do I connect the adjacent 4 block into the end or not? as per the pic

In terms of the Graphics card (r290) do I connect 6 chocka to the end e.g.

OR/AND

do I connect the 6 chock + the 2 chock to the next one down the card e.g.

I dont think you need to, but you may as well plug it in for 'better' power. My brain has died on me, I'm sure you know what I mean.

As for the graphics card, You will need to connect a wire to both the 6 pin and the 8 pin.

OK so basically fill ALL the holes! the extra 4 for the mobo and both the 6 and the 8 on the gfx card?

ive just noticed a cable that says cpu1 and a empty block under the fan labelled "ATX 12v 2x4" (it would have to be after i fitted the bloody fan).. Do I need to connect this if ive connected the main 24 pin connector?

ugh. gonna have to take the heatsink off. Is it a bad idea to mix thermal pastes (different makes?)

Also ive connected the gfx card as follows just using one cable from the power supply should i use 2?

thanks for the help guys, and life advice ;)

there was an overspill of paste from the cooler so i moved it back on the chip and on the cooler. Bios has been on for 15 mins and it seems to be steady at 25C

One annoying this is the cpu gives out a high pitched sound - not ideal

Hi its definately the cpu fan. If I put my finger on the fan to stop it the high pitch wine stops, then when the fans spins up it happens again. I tried loosing the fan very slightly ontop of the heatsink but no joy.. any suggestions

Hi, 100% installed as per the manufacturers instructions

"Is the fan tight on the heatsink "

It can be moved slightly with a bit of force but i think thats the design and how it fastens above the cpu so I believe.

"Have you set the motherboard to control the fan speed as the fan shouldn't need to run full speed all the time?"

There are four options in the BIOS and setting it too the lowest (Silent) it still does it

When the powers off if I manually spin the fan there is no noise however its like its the motor (which suggests its not catching against anything). Video here
