Hey guys. Been meaning to scratch the upgrade itch for a couple of months now and I'm nearly ready to pull the trigger. My current spec is as follows

i5 4670K (OC'd to 4Ghz)
8GB DDR3
Corsair H105i AIO
Gigabyte Z87X-OC
Sapphire R9 290 OC (factory overclock)

Now I know for sure that I need at least some more RAM and a new graphics card, but I'm quite tempted to do mobo and cpu too, if it's worth it.
I currently game at 2560x1440 60Hz which probably isnt going to change any time soon. High end games are starting to struggle a bit and im wondering, is it worth going for CPU and mobo too? I'd quite like to get 3+ years out of an upgrade. I will also get a Rift in the not too distant future and want to be able to run that comfortably.

So at the moment I'm thinking either:
8GB more DDR3 and a 1080
Or 1700X, mobo, 1080 and 16GB DDR4

Since ill be spending ~£600 on a new card and RAM, is it worth just doing the whole lot at once? Either that or wait for the ryzen refresh. I know for a gaming machine intel has the raw performance edge but I'm not happy buying in to what will soon be a dead platform. PSU, hard drives, case and the CPU cooler are staying.

If its worth it, budget will be around £1200.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,399.07 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Second hand i7 K , but CPU shouldn't be a limiting factor at 1440p
Another 8GB would be damn useful

Would personally grab 1070Ti, have the one above and overclocks nicely to 2ghz and runs slightly cooler then gtx 1080 chips

Bit if you do look enough , can find Aorus and Zotac 11gbps Gtx 1080 for same price as standard 1080s

I'm pretty set on the 1080 to be honest. I don't plan on overclockingthe graphics card and the price difference is insignificant enough to justify. I could get another 8GB DDR3 but am I throwing good money after bad...

1080 is probably the right choice and enough if you want what you have to last 2-3 more years. The RAM prices make a dd3->4 switch really expensive and I think your CPU might be ok for another year or two by which time perhaps the prices will be lower and new CPUs will be out.
