Hi All.

I currently have the potential to upgrade my PC soon.

Currently i have an adequite power supply, case, water cooling pump and radiator.

I also have a MSI GeForce GTX 570 OC Twin FrozR III.

I have about £500-£600.

I need a mobo, CPU, potentially another GPU to run in tandem, memory, water block, new pipes and bits.

I have been looking at the i5K Ivybridge (1155) and a similar MSI mobo as i like the brand.

I confess i havent been on the forums in ages and wondered if anyone can suggest a partial rebuild for my PC please?

Also should i sell my GTX570 and upgrade, or is it not economicallty viable for the graphics increase?

FYI - this build is intended for the Rome: Total War release, as i love that game. So i want something that can handle that. I also have time, so im not desperate to upgrade now if theres something cool around the corner.

Please fill in this geek who has been out of action for a while :)

Cheers

Thanks.

Would it be better to try and get hold of another GTX 570 (which might be hard to find the exact match) or sell my current one and get a GTX 670?

Also is it worth getting the i5 Ivybridge chip or saving for the i7? Im really undecided.

I'd say that it is worth getting a GTX-670 rather than another 570 in SLI, but a 670 will cost you around £300; taking a big bite out of your budget. Have you thought about getting something like an HD 7850 (around £140) or an HD 7950 (around £240) given that you're on a limited budget?

As for the second question, assuming that you are going to be using this build mostly for gaming - I'd say a good i5 CPU (like an i5-3530K or 2500K) would be a suitable (and worthy) option.

So, just for an idea for CPU, GPU and MoBo:

CPU - i5-3570K (~£200)
GPU - AMD HD 7850 (~£140)
MoBo - ASUS Z77 Maximus V Gene (~£150)

Total for these components = £490

That leaves you with around £100 to spend on other parts, not a lot but you have the most expensive (and important) components already and right there.

Thanks for the reply.

You have given me a lot to consider.

I am unsure at this stage whether to wait a little and get an i7k chip instead.

I usually upgrade my PC's in big 5 year overhauls, so i feel spending a little more on better CPU at this time may be vital.

Given there more exp, i might just stick with my current GTX570 MSI Twin Frozr III edition. Its pretty good for now. Then upgrade Mobo, mem, and new CPU waterblock.

Is it worth getting an i7 over i5?

I like the MSI stuff so im looking at the MSI mobo's, any idea what these are like?
