I've had a bit of a hardware disaster which has forced me to upgrade sooner than I'd have liked. Eventually I will have an HTPC that does Movies/Blu-Ray/Internet in the lounge, and a games machine upstairs. But I can only afford to do a partial upgrade ATM so I propose the following:

The 780g chipset + hdmi out + onboard ATI 3200 is perfect for everything HTPC. I know the CPU is overkill and the 4850e would be perfect for the HTPC side (especially as I could get nice and silent with some passive cooling!) But the rig also has to do for gaming for at least another 6 months.

So... I'll be bringing my 8800GTX, and either my BeQuiet 550w or my seasonic 650w (if I can prove it works ) plus the dvd/hdds from the old machine.

When I build a new gaming rig, the 8800GTX will come out and it will go into a small enclosure and become purely an HTPC (hence the 780g).

Without getting into the whole C2D rulez!!!111one l33t arguments, can anyone think of a neater solution? I'm very happy with the £200 price tag on this little upgrade.

I've been a bit of an Asus fanboy since the socket A days, hence I plumped for it. Is there any advantage to the Gigabyte? Does it have a separate HDMI, or is it a converter (had many bad experiences with dvi-hdmi adapters ) They seem pretty similar at the same price - any killer feature I'm missing on the Gigabyte?
