hey guys,

looking to do a partial upgrade on my current unit :)

current spec is

c2d [email protected]
4 gig mixed ram 4xgig sticks
DS3R mobo (later revision one iirc)
crappy no name psu (which i think is on the way out
rather old samsung 160gb HD
X1800XTX
probably the worst case in the world to house it in

will be reusing my optical drives etc etc

BUDGET- £300 although may stretch another £100-£150 for a decent gain

dont mean to be cheeky but can you offer 2 specs 1 retaining my XTX and one with a gpu upgrade

thanks guys :)

Ive come up with this for you, its a really nice upgrade for you, but is slightly over budget, if your budget is really strict you could drop the gfx card down to the 4830 and ditch the aftermarket cooler if you're not planning on OC'ing. I went for this spec even though its over your budget as it all fits together well and you'll see a really big step up in performance

A spec without gfx card would look about same, just remove the card from this

Yeah i would think so, i would use 95's spec taking out the mobo and CPU and use the mobo/cpu from your current build.

i'd go with the following to add to you're current config, adding a 4850 to it if you want to replace you're current gfx:

Antec P182 Super Midi Tower Case - Gun Metal Black (No PSU) £111.99 (£128.79)

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK) £69.99 (£80.49)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (ST3500320AS) £39.99 (£45.99)

Sub Total : £221.97
Shipping : £9.99
VAT : £33.30
Total : £255.27
