what's wrong with the drive?

partition magic is a pos, don't use that!

OK, well the probelm was it was part of a SATA Raid. I broke the array.

one disk is ok, the other, will not format under windows, using the admin console, it just sits there at formatting.

download gparted it's a bootable live linux disc, that loads up a partitioning tool, very easy to use, will let you format the drive

-as in, it boots from the cd, so windows will not be loaded
