Using XP can I change the partitions on my HD?
I would like to change from C: 20gb, D: 70gb, E: 70gb to C: 20gb (no change) D: 50gb and E: 90gb.

My OS is currently on the C partition. I have installed a few programmes on the D partition but if necessary I can uninstall them (though they will stay on the resized D partition) and there is currently nothing on the E drive.

How can I do this using XP?

you can use fdisk (start -> run -> cmd -> fdisk)

I think you might be able to use disk managment too

control panel -> computer management -> disk management

Fairly sure that you can't resize partitions through Windows. All Disk Management lets you do is reformat existing partitions to my knowledge.

If you want to resize your partitions you're best off with something like Partition Magic or similar.

WHOA! First you can't run FDISK from Windows. Second, FDSIK will wipe out your hard disk. Its only used for a clean HD & or when you want to recreate your partitions.

You'll have to get/buy a partition-ing program like Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director (very good). They allow you to create, resize, merge, etc partitions/drive with data on it without loosing it or formating, etc. Disclaimer: Its always safe to backup the data first.Things can easily go wrong, trust me :)

woops...my mistake

i meant spfdisk...though you cant use that from windows either.

I personally use partition magic.

Hmmm I find this surprising. I don't mind losing the data on the D and E partitions as long as I keep the OS on C which I don't intend to change. Is there really no way of doing that using XP????

No.

Thanx Guys.
I'm not toooooo far into a reinstall so I'll just start again and format my partitions to the size I want during the install set up. :(
