Partition shrinking

I am looking at shrinking my HDD's Vista partition and installing Ubuntu alongside it. However, in the computer manage section it says that I can shrink it by 0mb. I have heard that the Ubuntu partitioner/shrinker is good. Is it a major risk to do it using this even though the Windows one says that it cannot be shrunk?

http://gparted.sourceforge.net/ < works well for me whenever I need to mess w/partitions

Have always used Partition Magic but make sure you've backed up any important files as you never know
