Partition size ?

Quick question hopefully with a simple answer

Just starting to think about building a new system and will be using 2 x 250Gb hard drives.

I want to try out Linux at some point and just wondered what size partition you would suggest I create to install Linux onto.

Also is it best to put the Linux partition onto a different drive to the windows partition or does it not matter ?

Im running Ubuntu on a 8gb Partition with 1gb swap although the swap is never used. I have got Quake 3 and Enemy Territory installed alongside with all the usual stuff. I have 3.4gb left on the partition

When installing windows I will leave a 10Gb partition for future Linux installations.

When you select the 10Gb partition during the Linux install does the install process then partiton the space again to make the different areas Linux needs ?

The Linux installer can sort the partitions for you or just lump everything in a single partition. Either way, if you leave 10GB spare then you'll be fine.
