so far this is my plan

TV Card - LEADTEK DVT1000 S DIGITAL TV - £30.20
Fans - XILENCE RED WING 120MM QUIET FAN - £19.15
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-M720-US3 (Socket AM2+) PCI-Express DDR2 Mobo - £57.49

- £17.24
HDD - using existing HDD's (1x160gb, 1x200gb, 1x1tb)
Total so far £367.81

im hoping that so far thats all ok as ive bought it now and i would like advice on what PSU MEM and graphics card to get.

i currently have a 650w psu that is still running fine but i feel it wont be beefy enough for todays graphics cards

ive been looking at Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel (KHX8500D2K2/4G) for the memory but am unclear as to what the numbers mean and if its any good

and as for graphics cards they confuse me even more

can anyone out there reccomend me a graphics card and psu and advise/comment on the rest please :)

Thanks

Total £367.81

What's the budget for the gfx and PSU?

If it's approx £200 then the Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB @ £110 is a great value card - link - and if your after a 650W PSU then the Corsair TX 650W @ £74 - another link - will serve you very well and is highly regarded.

EDIT: Memory looks fine and is good value and reasonably slutty so you shouldn't have any compatibility problems.

EDITx2: And welcome to the forums!

Providing your current 650w psu is a quality model then it will be more than enough power. People don't realise just how little power their pc's actually draw. The rig in my siggy plus a pair of Sata ll hdd's, Sata dvdrw, 5x fans and a Zalman Zm-MFC2 multifunction controller only draws a peak of 274w at the wall and that's when running orthos and fur stability test together.

650w should do depending on what PCI-E Connectors it has and the Amps on the 12v rails.
Also what resoultion are you using?

@Plec ive ben budgeting for around £200 for each time i buy a set of parts so that looks cool. thanks for the welcome.

@pastymuncher my psu is fairly old so i dont think it has any plugs for Graphics cards and id prefer a modular model, how can i tell how much power my rig draws?

A 4870 will max out a 1650*1080 screen so it may be overkill... though any less is apparently a bit antiquated as modern pc gaming goes.

ooo thats pretty :D shame it wont still be on offer when i can afford it lol.

also whats the relevence of chipsets?

the mobo is Nvidia the graphics card is ATI? does it matter if they dont match?
