Hello,

Im thinking of upgrading my seriously old pc. Ive got about £500 to spend.
These are the parts I was thinking about and was wondering if there a good choice.

Argon Extreme Intel Core i3 540 3.06GHz @ 4.20GHz Overclocked Bundle (£240.73)

HIS IceQ 5 Turbo ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB (£111.61)

Samsung F3 HD103SJ 1TB internal Hard Drive SATAII 32MB (£40.99) [amazon]

Windows 7 Home Premium Full (£80-100) [diff sites]

Need help choosing a power supply, would a 650W do it?
Any comments are welcome.

Thanks

Yeh a 650W should be more than capable. I would definitely swap that ATI 5770 over for a Nvidia 460, no questions. I would probably go for a Antec Truepower 650W PSU (Seasonic built), you can get them for around 65. Yesterday special had it down to 59, so you just missed out.

I don't think 5770 is the best bang per pound at that price point.

460GTX or 6850 perhaps.

And then some, the i3 is the low end of Intel's range and only has a TDP of 73W, a midrange graphics card will use about 150W. Bottom line is you'd only need the 650W supply if you go for multi video cards. You could easily go down a couple of hundred watts.

I'm assuming you mean a 650W 'Quality' branded supply and not some cheap unbranded rubbish 650W (more like 350W) PSU.

so i see david, youve come to the i5 side after realising that i7 is no better than i5 for gaming :D
the corsair cx420 or cx 500 should power that system fine
and as mentioned swap the gpu for gtx 460/hd 6850 if you can stretch
