Hi,

I was looking for a program to be able to talk to my friend when playing certain games.

I was told about a program called TeamSpeak so I downloaded and installed it but from what I can see to have a private channel we need to buy/rent a server.

Is there any software that I can just have a free chat channel with my friends?

Thanks

You can setup your own server with TS without having to buy/rent one - does mean having to run it on one of your PCs and opening appropriate ports for the other person(s) to connect to.

Skype would probably be another alternative though I'm not a fan of it myself.

You could set up a Mumble server on a Raspberry Pi. Cost you circa £30. Mine is rock solid stable.

I will give ventrillo and mumble a go.

I downloaded a program called Razers Comms last night which seems to do everything I need it to but I won't be able to test the voice chat till tomorrow with my friend.

skype for simplicity, or mumble - your own server can host as many users as you like, although bandwidth is a problem if you have too many friends ;)

Or you can use my mumble server if its just a few of you

Prettttty easy to find an inactive teamspeak server and use a channel in there for your friends. No need to go through the ache of hosting servers and whatnot if there aren't that many of you using it.

Skype is good and *SHOULD* find the best host automatically.
