Pascal Titan-X Launch

He is right though.... it is not so much the 1Gb/s bandwidth, but the power savings, that would allow them to use more cuda cores and still fit in their "budget",
250w TDP is not really the power draw exactly, TDP stands for "thermal design power" not "max power" or similar.

250w is still the power it requires, which is what his argument is. 300w is not 'unacceptable' if that's what it would take. HBM2 is certainly not going to reduce draw by 50w, anyways.

Honestly, it's drunkenmaster here. If this was AMD, he'd be saying the same things I am. He merely adjusts his arguments based on what suits his agenda best. It's actually funny because if he actually believes what he's saying, he should be very worried about what AMD can do to even compete given they are behind in efficiency compared to Pascal. I know Vega is supposed to bring further improvements and HBM2 should help, but that will more than likely just bring them closer in line to what Nvidia has to deal with, not leapfrog them. Unless Vega is some huge hit and Polaris is just some poor stopgap.

Something doesn't seem quite right about this launch, for a start they've hardly mentioned it and it's Nvidia order only, it's like they DON'T want you to buy them.

I think I'm going to wait.

It is possibly a rushed launch since they will actually have Volta earlier than expected on 16nm rather than 10nm.

That Being said previous Titan's didn't have a massive launch because they are niche products for extreme enthusiast. Large marketing budgets simply don't make sense i for this segment. the cards will sell themselves, quite simply they are the fastest most powerful GPU money can buy, and will be for quite some time. Given Polaris performance it is unlikely Vega will even dethrone the regular 1080. So this is liekly the fastest GPU until NVidia release a Volta 1080, possibly this time next year. That is all people need to know before shelling out for one.

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that these cards are not really meant for gamers but Nvidia knows they will be bought by gamers with deep pockets

Indeed.

If your gonna take the plunge do it the right way with a full EK block yourself + decent paste.

;)

No I'd not take the risk with a nvidia warranty card. If it dies on me. £1100 gone bye bye. Unless I can go EVGA then I'm not taking the risk.

Already have both my 1080's on FC blocks. Running great and performance no issue running 3440x1440 100hz.

What's SLI 1080s running like?

Most games getting a boost?

I'm thinking of getting another.

To be honest, good. Most games running just fine with decent optimisation. There are a few games with issues but for the most part to be expected with a new GPU launch and SLI.

The drivers and support will only get better and better down the line.

You in Ireland too?

Are you using Parcel Motel? I couldn't see any other way to do it. Ordered 2 cards myself.

Little bit of irony - you can't get them to ship to Ireland, but the UK cards are sent from here:

Digital River Ireland Ltd.
Unit 153, Shannon Free Zone West
Shannon, Co. Clare, IRELAND

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They are definitely more similar to the original Titan than the Titan X.

The quadro version of these will sell for 2-3K at least, so 1100 for a version without the certified drivers is not too bad.

So gpu's are never going to reach the point where running 4k is like it running 1080? ok....

Obviously they will eventually, but not any time soon (read: the next 10 years). Look at it like this, 4K is 4x harder to run than 1080p, and you need a minimum of a 980 ti/1070 in order to properly max ANY game at 1080p @ 60fps (some people will try and say the 1060 can do that too, but if you look at e.g. Mirror's Edge Catalyst @ Hyper, it can't; if you look at GTA V, it can't; and the list is longer and will keep increasing - never mind modding and such which can further strain the hardware). Considering that, and that there's also the possibility of >60hz, is it really so far fetched that maxing 4K on a single card is many, many years away? I don't think so. Hardware advances, but those advances have slowed down, meanwhile software isn't letting up, so requirements keep increasing as well.

Yep plus as time goes on games become more advanced, so you have that consideration, as well as the extra pixels to render the more advanced games in. Will be a long time before a card can comfortable render every game maxed out at 4K. The 4K gen cards will be going for years yet. Then 8K 0.0
