I am trying to replace the door handle bowden cable on my Passat (99), however I can't find away of getting the inside door panel off.

There are only 2 screws at the bottom, plus the top pops off at the bottom of the window.

It seems the handle has 2 screws inside but its nearly impossibly to get the cover off.....

Any ideas?

Cheers :)

I only know the early Passat, the door pull has a little flush flap(hehehe) that hides a huge cross head screw, once this is off the pannel is just held on by loads of ''Jesus' clips.spring clips under tension so that when you get a small blade screwdriver under them they ping off leaving you to think 'Jesus, were did that go?'
I just found two in my shed last week and I got rid of the car over 10 years ago!

Managed to get the inside door panel off - the handle actually does come apart....bloody nightmare!

Now there is a second metal panel inside the door panel, have taken all electrics out and all screws, although this seems to be connected to the window..... Any ideas how this comes out to get the cable in behind it???

That's the window regulator. Don't take the motor or the associated electrics off it. There should be 3 (IIRC) bolts holding it in. Remove these bolts and it should lift straight out once you remove the clamps from the bottom of the window.

That's assuming its a B5.5, I'm not sure if the B5 or older has the same mechanism.
