Passat R36

They sold about 3, due to the price, only used ones i've seen have been nearly knew and are far too expensive for a passat, its like the W8 situation all over again.

any idea as to what the passat offers over any of the other superior offerings on the market ?

want cheap, buy a vectra VXR / ST220

want premium ? buy an Audi S4 / Bmw 330 etc..

the passat R36 doesnt really fall into any segment in this market, except for children who dream of owning a fast version of daddys car.

TBH, I would have a 330. Well, a 330 estate. I like the fact the Passat (this particular model) isn't something you'll see on the road every 2 minutes though.

its a passat, and its not like it has particularly distinctive or aggressive styling. Everybody except the biggest of petrolheads will mistake it for a normal passat.

To a lot of people, thats a massive plus point

Mrs Mad Rapper (to be) is fussy. She won't have a Vauxhall (no offence!)

We currently have an A3, the A4 offers no more legroom, it's just an A3 with a boot TBH. The 330i or 330d estate is an option.

I wouldn't be buying it for everyone to look at, but because it appears to be a nice fast car and would hopefully give me pleasure to own.

We have considered getting a 2.0 TDi Passat Estate for a long time, so this isn't really a quantum leap from that.

Why would you WANT a Passat? A Passat is something you end up with rather than desire. As somebody famous once said, chosing which Passat to buy is a little like chosing which sort of wallpaper paste you'd rather eat.

LOL :)

I am a freak for wanting a Passat? It's a nice car. I'll get my coat ;)

I hated the Passat I had to endure for a month and a bit - it wasn't good at anything and felt cheap, not like a premium product at all (as VW would like you to believe).

I quite like the passat too - havent had much experience with the new ones but driven a few older shape ones and they're nice cars. Fair enough if you dont like them, but its unfair to imply nobody would ever want one

The other point to raise is that if the R36 suspension is stiffer than the standard Passat sports suspension I imagine it's virtually unbearable - the 2.0 TDI Sport I had was incredibly harsh but didn't even provide a decent drive.
