They make it quite a task now to get your LGV licence.

Hopefully will make it easier to get jobs in the field if less are passing. I've just scraped this one. 40 out of 50 questions correct (38 minimum). I Didn't do much revision which was a little careless on my part. I'm still gonna read through the book as I know i've more to learn.

Done

LGV Theory
Hazard Test
Driver CPC

To Do

Practical Demonstration

Nearly there and I'm not quite sure I'll want to drive for a living, just a nice backup to have. I'm so far in now I've got to finish it within 2 years, else it will have all been a waste of time.

Why are you doing it surely you are exempt? haven't you been driving for years?

Yes, far too long to sit in a classroom and be told how to do my job by a suited gimp who's never set foot in an HGV..... (imo!) :D;)

I do have "Acquired rights" as such but only for a 5 year period.

The pen pushers deem that I have, within these five years, to complete 35 hours of periodic training to keep my acquired Driver CPC this is what my course is for afaik.

Seems a tad pointless just yet, my CPC runs out on 9 September 2014! - I'd guess its down to the sheer number of drivers that my employers have and the logistics of getting all 2000+ drivers trained before the deadline.

Acquired rights

Some professional drivers will not have to pass the initial Driver CPC qualification and will hold the Driver CPC by 'acquired rights' for a five year period.

These drivers will be:

* bus or coach drivers who obtained a vocational licence (D, D1, DE and D1E licence categories) before 10 September 2008
* lorry drivers who obtained a vocational licence (C, C1, CE and C1E licence categories) before 10 September 2009

However, within these five years you need to complete 35 hours of periodic training to keep your Driver CPC.

You will need to finish your periodic training by:

* 9 September 2013 (bus and coach drivers)
* 9 September 2014 (lorry drivers)

An exception to this is if you have a vocational licence of D, D1, DE or D1E licence category which has an entitlement on it stating 'not for hire or reward'.

This licence will not provide you with 'acquired rights' and you will have to take the initial Driver CPC qualification to drive professionally.

If you obtained your vocational licence on or after 10 September 2008 (bus or coach) or 10 September 2009 (lorries) you will have to pass the initial Driver CPC qualification.

Myself and many of my fellow drivers think its a load of **** tbh. :p

I have my c+e and passed a good 8 years ago, however i don't drive for a living, if i want to keep my license after 2019 do I have to do this? I leave the army a year after and i may need to drive after.

Read my post above re Acquired rights, this will apply to you if you wish to keep your LGV entitlement.

I have acquired rights on the D category on my licence as I passed my test in May 2008.

Done my first two years CPC classroom sessions and a short assessment drive. It is, quite obviously, a load of old baloney.

Looking forward to my 3rd year which I'm led to believe contains a commentary drive. Finally something decent to get into.

I am yet to meet a fellow Stobart - or indeed any other company's - driver who has done his course who would disagree with that view....

Jobs for the boys in Brussels tbh.

Same in my company, no-one has any real interest in the whole thing.

When your name comes out of the hat it's just a day off service work. We get fed, watered and if we're very lucky boys a certain attractive lady will be delivering our course.

Very quickly off topic, I'm sure I saw a PX10 registered MAN in Stobart colours the other day... if it was, I didn't realise you guys had MAN's, thought Stobart was exclusively Volvo and Scania?

Volvo, Scania, DAF, MAN and Mercedes - probably a few more, they have 1850 trucks currently....
