7th time lucky :)

feels amazing - it was all worth it. :)

Looking to spend 1 - 3 k? on a car, hopefully economical as it will do the daily commute. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also where to buy from and how to finance it too (loan?) etc too.

Any advice much appreciated - thanks guys.

:)

Interested to know what made you carry on, surely after the 5th or 6th you must have started to think "hmmm perhaps i'm not cut out for driving"?

congrats though

I wasn't able to practice in anyone elses car, and funded every penny myself, which meant I couldnt afford lessons every week, probably why it took much longer to get everything spot on!

Congratulations, I personally had 4 goes so I understand how much of a relief it is to finally pass:)

What about one of those 1.25 Fiestas? I've read good things about them on this forum.

Let me guess, you passed first time with zero minors?

Passed first time yes, i just never heard of someone actually having to do it 7 times. Id have thought they would have given up (mind you, the average waiting time for a test in Ireland is 45 weeks to a year)

Some of us are just talented ;)

Jokes aside, congrats mate. It's a great feeling having passed ones driving test. Enjoy it :) The first drive alone is surreal. Thankfully, it was a glorious day when I passed, windows down, pootling along carefully. Bliss.

Very true:) and some of us get more nervous than others, and **** it up 3 times:p

Don't worry, he's a very cautious driver. If his backseat driving is anything to go by anyway.

"Watch out for that car!" - its parked 300 yards up the road, I don't need to move out just yet  ;)

update: right, what I think I'm going to do is to take advantage of a new car purchase on finance that offers a year's free insurance?

does that mean after that free year I could potentially have 1 years no claims as well as pass plus under my belt?

people advise against a "new" first car, but as far as I can see it's the cheapest option?

opinions?

thanks :)

My opinion is better to get an older car, reasonably cheap (£1k-4k, though totally depends on your wealth etc) for at least the first couple of years for building up some no claims.

I personally don't like the buying new with free insurance, as you'll likely get a small car, with very few options and ability, like say a corsa, when you can get a bloody good say Focus / Mondeo sized car with loads of extras and will be an overall far better car.

I've not much knowledge of finance / loans, but I'd have thought if you sat down and looked at all the options in detail including service / insurance / monthly repayments on loans etc, total paid, you'd get a good idea of what would be best for you financially.
