Hey guys,

Thought I tell you guys I've passed my driving test today! Really chuffed especially cos I was told I have the moodiest examiner at the centre and also cos it was raining really bad!

All I need to do is buy a car and do pass plus!
Are Renault Clio MK1 good first cars?

Cheers guys.

Congratulations! :D

330ci sport? or perhaps the 330d if you have no NCB.... just kidding :p

Might be better to get a non-french car as your first car, less scary and don't break as much. Perhaps a cheap UK car?

lol, but it's true - even the elders of my family agree :p

Well done for passing your test - you'll have a lot more freedom now you can move places at 70mph :D

Thanks guys!I really feel like going out and drive!except I have no car....... :o

Funny you said that,my dads mate is selling his Beemer for 4k and the other week I said to my dad how about you buy me that as my first car!

He flipped and said "No way,you can't handle it.Plus your car will be better than mine!"(he drives a 406) :p

Congrats mate.

I was warned about our test centre. Quite a few of my more "ostentatious" friends failed, despite being good drivers, yet I found being really polite helped to pass the test :D

As much as people may disagree i dont think you can do much better than a Rover 214 for a first car. Go for the basic 8v version and they are a reliable little car, and much better looking than most other stuff for the kind of money they go for.

Bought my GF one off another forum member here for £300 i think it was, still hasnt had anything wrong with it over a year later and about 15,000 miles. Doesnt look like a banger either, anyone who doesnt know about cars just see's it as a nice little respetable hatchback.

I was really polite aswel,as it was raining my trainers were wet nd was making squeaky noise whenever I was lifting the clutch up and I said "Sorry about the squeak" but the examiner just blanked me. :p

Ummm I quite like the Rover 214 aswel, they going quite cheap then? Do you get more for your money then others?

I buy and sell a fair few cars these days, generally all of this type, and as a car to run myself i honestly wouldnt buy anything else for the ~£500 you need to get a worthwhile 214, i dont feel anything else can really offer the same allround package. Another popular car for this pricepoint is the Fiat Punto, which although mine havn't given me any issues, i havn't ran one for any length of time, so i cant give an accurate owners report. Owners seem to like them though and they sell quickly, and they look fairly modern for the money.

Clio's for this money look like bangers, as do fiesta's and corsa's. Not necessarily a reason to avoid them but id sooner pick something which looks a tad more respectable. :)

Congrats. Now begins the frustration of not being able to drive until you have a car :p
Yeah tell me about it!Was pestering my dad today about looking to get a car and he was like you don't need one yet! :p

Well done!

Clio's are good first little cars, my friend has one and drives like a looney and it hasnt ever gone wrong and it's a 1994 model so a mk1 phase 2. The 1.2 or 1.4 RT are good little cars. My fiesta 1995 has never let me down, a few of my friends have punto's and they always seem to be in the garage as with saxo's.

Congrats.

Was great when I passed, but I only had my dad's car to drive which was then (over 2 and a half years ago now) and still is a right shed!

Didn't get my first car till about a month or two after, but then I was waiting for passplus before I sorted my car for the road.

Thanks guys.
What insurance company normally do the best deals for young drivers?I'm 17 but won't be getting a car until I'm 18(next month).I've used confused.com before but they were rubbish, think cheapest quote I got off confused.com for a Honda Civic 1.4 was £4000
