Passing Red Light by 0.9 seconds

Where do you get this stuff from?

Flashing cameras are still very much a thing.

Most red light cameras are still Gatso RLC 36 which will flash unless its bright enough conditions in which case they dont.

They arent being installed anymore and the new modern Trevulo-D use infra red flash which you wont see.

Qualifier must be red light then, as the modern cameras fitted most recently to Smart Motorways all flash.

On my actual driving test as I drove into the test centre to finish, the lights went to amber just as I was about three car lengths from them. I actually began an emergency stop before deciding to let the brakes off and go on through. When I pulled in to the test centre and parked, the instructor told me "had you completed that emergency stop at those lights I would have failed you, but well done you have passed".

This may seem like an unrelated scenario but the reality is it's fine to go through an amber light, BUT NOT a read light. So really there is no excuse when caught in this scenario. The lights going amber mean stop safely and NOT gun it to beat the red. Ironically most people just end up breaking the speed limit to beat the red light.

Though one time I kept going at amber as I was making it fine just before the light went red. I didn't realise the traffic police were a few cars back and I got the blue flashing lights. The officer slowly walked to my window and said, "do you realise you broke a read light sir"? I respectfully and politely aplogised and told him that I saw it was still amber as I drove through but that obvioulsy I was preparred to take his word for it, along with the evidence from both his police car camera and my own dashcam. He saw my dashcam and walked away muttering "You were lucky this time because I have no traffic tickets left". Yeah right, a traffic cop with no traffic tickets and nothing to do with you being a douchebag who got caught in your BS.

Which is why the new Trevulo-D cameras measure your speed as well as going through a red light as highly likely most people will also be breaking the speed limit as well so you can get two tickets and two lots of points

Lol, clever ploy and one that will be a big profit with subsequent fines. How many of us do an unconcious (or even concious) speed up coming to lights so you get through them?

Dude, this is the motors forum on OCUK. Literally everyone on here drives like an angel, and its all those other road users you see casually flooring it to beat the lights.

Yep and thats a minimum of 6 points, potentially 7-9 points and 100% of your weekly wages if doing more than 41mph in a 30 zone and if your really floored it to get through and got done at 51mph+ then it will be 9 points plus 150% of your weekly wages minimum with a chance of since your went through a red light as well a magistrate may well disqualify you for 7-56 days.

I'm gonna be a while looking for the sympathy for someone getting done for speeding through a red light.

Surely not? :)

Anyway, there's always the defence of necessity: "Yes, my lord, I did go through the lights at over the speed limit but it was necessary. As my dashcam video shows, the police car was boot-tailing me and stopping would have caused an accident."

I thought all drivers drive like angels and it was only cyclists that broke the law jumping red lights etc. That’s how it always seems to work

If I had 360 dashcams I could be uploading people jumping red lights almost every day lately :( it concerns me a lot as in many cases those red lights are there for a very good reason - why anyone would jump a red, especially at speed, here for instance boggles my mind https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.9...4!1scO_TOwrPivdgo5274NpoVg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 there are CCTV cameras so I hope they get caught.

In Edinburgh there’s a big junction called Maybury at Barnton. It’s a real mess of a junction and you regularly see cars jump red lights on solid reds so late it isn’t even an attempt to jump an amber. I don’t know if it’s because they don’t care or it’s incompetence but it’s potential carnage.

There are a few instances where I've been driving a bus, lights have changed to amber but I'm far too close for a safe stop (or even able to) so I've had to continue through then checked my mirrors after getting through and seeing another vehicle, that could have stopped, following me through. Usually a taxi or german marque vehicle...

I went past green light and got letter saying i i we past red light.
Had dashcam footage to show light was green and didnt even go amber till i was halfway down the road thanks to rear camera.

They trying it on for free monies.

They have given the power to fine people using cameras to councils, of course they are going to try it on and screw up. It's what they do.
