Hi everyone,

Im currently putting together a new water loop for my new build.

i have an antec twelve hundred case and debating the where to place a radiator
so help in this area would also be useful. i was going to attach a 240 rad on the outside of the case where the exaust fans are so i can double these up as my rad fans, i know you can get screws that would allow you to do this and again suggestions here would be useful.

to my original question. While investigating water loops i have come across a passive radiator by alphacool? so by passive i wouldnt need any fans. has anyone got this system and does it work as well/better or worse than the traditional method

Thanks,

I wouldn't bother with passive cooling, especially not alphacool. The alphacool setup doesn't have enough of those pipes (you need like 5 or 6 to cool a medium power system)

I also wouldn't bother water cooling an antec 1200, probably the worst case to water cool.

may I also ask what you are going to cool?

at the moment the loop will just be for the 17 930 i will be purchasing soon but may eventually expand, i prefer to water cool and have i my last 2 setups the twelve hundred has all the necessary features for water cooling just a little confused on rad placement was all

in a way yes, the 200mm top fan is a bit of a pain but the case was made for airflow i just prefer to water cool is all. i think ill probably stick to my origional idea and have the rad on the outside of the case over the 2 120mm exhaust fans. seems like the best option really

I wouldn't WC the 1200 because there isn't any room on the inside for a decent sized rad plus the flow from the 200mm fan may mean that heat from parts which aren't water cooled flows into the radiator if you mount it on top

i was running passively before, but;

i was using a 60*80cm dual thick house radiator - size is vital, and dense fins are a nono
i doubt a normal 2*120 rad would cut it owing to fin density.

temps were good tho, with a heavily oc'd 939 x2 water temps peaked in the low 30's during the summer. and the warmer the water is the harder it is to make it warmer still.

I used a house rad before also, it worked rather well, this was back in the Socket A days however, and moving the PC turned out to be a bit of a pain!
