Yep i use it all the time.. Its a great bit of testing kit.

Well, if that happens then you were clearly doing the wrong stress test for the system you use.
There's no reason to do large CPU only tests if you game heavily, in the same way stressing the GPU tests when you do heavy CPU work
Not really!
They apply load to the CPU in very different ways, its just dependant on its uses. Torture tests will load the CPU only causing it to hi the max clock, thus producing more heat.
As soon as you start gaming, it can indeed cause it to be unstable. CPU load is not the same as CPU/GPU load which puts further stress on the CPU, testing its stability.

I was mainly meaning stress test as 'tests to stress the system' rather than a single program to stress test.
In my experience you can't rely on one test you need to run a few, focusing on the area you're most likely to use, Like running Bioshock infinity bench/3DMark etc etc to see how it holds up.
I've never had a system pass them all and not run a game, but then different PCs different results
