Er, no.
I appriciate the atempted help there, but if that was the case, why would i be posting about it here?
I can access the shared drives on my XP home machine with any machine on my network without having to put in username or password. That can be accessing it with XP, Vista, Linux or OSX.
Is this gonna be one of the things that cant be done with Home, but can with Pro?
Windows XP Pro has advanced permissions management. If you open an explorer window and click Tools > Folder Options > View and untick the checkbox next to Use Simple File Sharing you will be able to manage permissions for every folder on your machine. The end result is that folders that you wish to keep private will require you to authenticate yourself with a username and password of a user that is allowed to access the folder
Unfortunately this feature is not available in XP Home
XP Home Edition has very limited security. Or read, no decent user based security. I thought that if you have different usernames on the PCs, and then shared the My Docs folders, that would need a username instead of "everyone" access. Doesn't that tick of "make my files private" help? (I can't remember off top my head.... just know it has been a pain on some machines before.)
(I'll get back to this thread later.... I have a customer's Home XP PC here which I will double check a few theories on and then return with facts instead of total guess work... LOL )
I did once grab a little proggy which claimed to be able to add the Security Tab into XP home. Never used it, but it was a M$ package called "Security Configuration Editor". If you want to experiment with it, email me BoomAM
