Is there a way to password protect a single folder in 10.5.1 ? I have some stuff which I need to keep secured on a shared Mac and don't want to start creating different user accounts. So is there a way ?

AFAIK, no, however, you can create a passworded .dmg, where you can then dump your folder in there :)

Go to disk utility and create a .dmg there.

Now hide your porn collection with ease :p

A secure disk image is probably the best way, acts pretty much like a folder just remember to unmount it and don't keep the password in keychain.

While we're on the subject does anyone know if those images will mount in linux or windows? I've never tried.

a .dmg image would not work in Windows without some 3rd party .dmg reading application.

A ZIP would work fine on all formats though :)

Its not pron... honest.

In all seriousness, I'm saving a lot of information gathering on X-Mas presents for the missus. If I don't hide this stuff well she'll find it out.

But I surpose I could also hide grot in there as well :D

Lol... the missus's christmas presents and your porn collection, all in the same passworded source; wouldn't look good if she finds them out... together.
