Hi all,
I've been trying my hand at a little cryptocurrency mining here and there and had some reasonable results. But I came across an article discussing the effectiveness of recent AMD/Nvidia GPUs in the area of password and hashed password recovery.
While I can't afford a monster setup, I am considering investing in a barebones setup (or perhaps two clustered together) containing three or more R9 280X in each setup.
What I'm aiming for is to be able to provide a basic service that allows people to recover their passwords simply by sending me the file to which they have forgotten their password and being able to return it to them in a timely manner - let's say between 24 and 72 hours.
Can anyone a bit more clued up tell me or advise me on just what kind of capacity or rig that would be required in order to perform recoveries on a reasonable selection of commonly utilised file types? For the sake of example, I have forgotten windows/Microsoft Office/Excel passwords in mind, to start out with anyway.
If nothing else it would be a great excuse to purchase a sweet rig from Overclockers.co.uk and to have it pay for itself
