you can view them in firefox, maybe if you install that then imprt all your bookmarks and passwords

What might have worked is download XMarks for IE: http://download.xmarks.com/download/ie
then sync it to your online account.
That way when you need your usernames and passwords on a new format just install and run xmarks and it will update everything (bookmarks and passwords) to how they were when you last synced them.
