Patch or no patch?

I just bought Fallout 3 game of the year edition and am unsure on whether I should patch it to 1.7 or not. I want it working as well as it can, so will the patch do more harm than good?

Yes, the patches generally do more harm than good. Look up the changelogs just in case there's something essential in there for your setup. Most people will tell you vanilla was the most stable!

As a rule I always patch to the latest version.

HOWEVER, I did find patch 1.7 to be more unstable than 1.6 (crashing every 20s-20m as opposed to every 20m-2h). As always, YMMV, personally I'd try 1.7 and see how your system handles it, if it runs stable then it'll be better than running it unpatched.

Strangely I found mine to be more stable with 1.7 than 1.6
