Just installed vista a few days ago and i wanna add some shiny new themes! so i found various places where they tell you to rename the three files in windows/system32 -> uxtheme.dll, themeui.dll and shvcs.dll so i download the one provided on that Rafael site for Windows Vista SP1(i checked before that i really had SP1), i reboot and then at login i get a nasty "uxtheme.dll was not found". Thank god i have ubuntu on dual boot so i could revert back to my old version. Still i wanna use VS on vista anyone ever had the same problem?

Help meh pweeze! :p

okay it work perfectly fine! guess i was just being stupid, can't even copy three files correctly tsss!

Thanks skippi90! :p

Well actually it's not working that well Grrrrrrrrr come on i must be the only person on earth having problem with those stupid themes. So i patched my files with VistaGalzz etc... now i can login in Windows (Hurray) but when i double click my shiny theme downloaded from Deviant Art to install it, the windows appearence window appears(wow what a sentence :p), in it i can choose my theme, the name is there but it looks just like your normal theme changing nothing.... Getting quite depressed there, please fellow OCUKers help that poor Swiss sod that i am :(

ps: I use Vista 64 bits could that be my issue?

You need to paste it into the theme folder, I think. It's been a while since I've done it but it needs to go where all the other themes live.

*:\Windows\Resources\Themes

Where * is the drive your OS is installed on.

Also, where are you getting your themes from?

Hello

Just wondering if you could help me out also. I have ran VistaGlazz, rebooted and put my theme into the Resources\Themes folder (also tried pasting just the .msstlye and not the folder). When I double-click the .msstyle icon it doesn't seem to work. I just get a list of Windows Aero, Classic, basic, etc but not the new theme.

Have I done something wrong?

Screenshot if it helps:-

I get exactly the same here Firegod, the only ones that seem to work for me are ones with the extention .theme, the ones with .msstyles just revert my theme to basic aero.

Hey i see i wasn't the only one in this position. I got it to work eventually but of course my computer died since then so i cant check to be sure how i did. Thing is that the themes that just have a .msstyle file won't go in the Themes menu but in the Windows appearance, they will have the same name as one that is already there, most of the time it adds another Vista Aero window appearence but when you select it, it applies the theme correctly.
I can't remember if i put them in a sub folder under the themes folder tho try to do that and if you see multiple instance of Vista Aero in window appearence try to select a different one it might just be your new theme!
I'll check to see this thread if you have any more questions

Hey guys.

Thanks for the replies. :) Your right Leodido... it just adds another Windows Vista Basic or Aero entry, and even though it doesn't look right if you apply it anyway it will change the theme. :D WooHoo!

Looks much better now. Mattey, try applying the .msstyle again. If the first one doesn't work, apply the next entry with the same name and it should change.

Cheers!

Thanks for that, i've found a theme i've fell in love with now though :)
