i'll admit i've no idea what i'm doing when it comes to this so i'll just say it and be mocked :)

i don't know how to hook my pc up to my tv. it's got the hdmi port on the back, which i'm plugging in then booting up but the tv stays black. i don't get the "no signal" thing appear so it knows something is there, but nothing happens. i played around in display settings for half hour, looking for some sort of add monitor option or change default monitor etc. found nothing. running windows 7. someone help me out here ^^

1920x1080. i've tried doing it with the monitor at the same time and without. when i open up the settings i can't find a way to add the tv, let alone change it to primary. but then again, i'm a noob.

Desktop or laptop?

I know my laptop has a button on the keyboard which allows you change the primary monitor and how it shares it.

my tv? no. that's what the resolution is set on my monitor, but i can't find any way to add the external device or whatever, let alone pick what res i want it on. it only changes on my main monitor. my tv definitely isn't 1920x1080.

Try changing your output resolution to the same as the TV. 1366x768 or whatever.

Also look in the manual for your TV. On some you have to use a specific HDMI port to connect a PC.

both NVidia and AMD have different settings for TV displays (including force detection), make sure you have the latest GFX drivers, plug in the TV, and see what you can do from there, go through sources on your TV and see if you can pick something up, but you must be able to see the TV within the driver first (I can see mine via Catalyst control center (CCC) *AMD*)

christ. got it working. the winner is- surveyor. the 2nd time i tried it in the other port it went ding and now i can see my desktop on the tv.

which is odd cuz i have this page open. guess i have to play in the settings now...
