Patio requires "edging?"

Oh dear, I would want a pipe or some kind of lined drainage channel for that. I wouldn't want water getting under my patio like that.

I'm not entirely sure how one earth they have got them to not set as rocking paving is usually from when they use blobs of cement rather than a bed.

I'm not sure you can set that pretty bad bodge of a drain right, not in an evening. With a pipe ending that close to the wall you're asking for trouble in the long term.
I think you should start to think of damage limitation, perhaps try and have a civil conversation with him that you're not happy with the work but you'll give him a couple of hundred for the trouble and let bygones be bygones.

yup can't see that is any good - cowboy job.

A "lesser cowboy" job would be at least get a plastic pipe and connect it to that then routed off to the side to the drain proper. or tbh just have drainage pipe fixed to the wall going along till it drops to drain proper.

Can see you'll get damp from that bodget drain going up the wall or patio door, or it'll weaken the area under the slabs

Aye, seen it before and the corner of the house started coming away. I appreciate subsidence is a tad extreme but it can be a result and you better be ready with your wallet if that happens.

Also how about frost and ice....what happens when the water turns to ice on that home made drainage channel in the first winter. That'll accelerate the problem.

Read about gypsies doing bad driveway jobs, not done right and first winter it breaks apart due to frost and ice. Then not going deep enough so cars weight breaks it up. lol

Good luck OP :(

Does anyone have a solution? I can't get another bit of pipe on it.

Only things I can think of are mini guttering or dpm siliconed in

Can you get a slightly smaller pipe to go inside it and put some sealant round the edge? No idea if that would be a good solution tho.

Wow complete bodge job, don't pay them a penny.

You state they looked professional but did you check the website listed? Hardly any contact details, no company name/number listed, no reference to any qualifications/certifications. Did that not set alarm bells ringing?

No, but I did see good reviews somewhere online, decided not to post the link in case it's traced to this thread by them.

@GSXRMovistar Why would I care if I had real life recommendations?

You need another builder in to assess the extent of their shoddy workmanship, once you're armed with the facts tell them you're not paying until it's put right. Worrying about upsetting them won't get it fixed.

I did a reverse check on Google and the images are on (literally) thousands of other driveway/patio websites too, handy tip if you ever visit a trader's website which has pictures implying it is their own work.

Hope you get it sorted OP.

I have a plumber coming to sort the pipe out properly and have told them to halt all work (via text as they're not picking up to me). I may get the guy who did my driveway round to come scrutinise.

Feel for you, this is the sort of predicament I could imagine myself falling into!

Have you paid them yet? Hopefully they think you're on their case and they've ran off?

Hope you get it sorted, I'm having a driveway done soon and finding someone decent is always worrying! I'm using Checkatrade and have a couple of people with lots/high feedback coming over at the weekend.

That's a tough lesson. I suggest either going through pavingexpert contract list http://www.pavingexpert.com/contractor_list.htm or posting on their forum to see if any of their regulars can help. A different option could be looking for an approved manufacturers installer which theoretically should mean getting a quality fitter but not to the same standard as the paving expert boys, http://www.pavingexpert.com/contractor_list.htm

A valuable life has been learnt and put it down to experience because what you have no matter how they try to fix it will crumble and be up next year. Sorry.

Doesn't look like theres been any grab provided by the cement at all, and it does look just like cement, was any sand added?

I'd be looking to pay them a token gesture for the days they were there and asking them to tear up what they've done.
Surely if they're a legit business they'd have insurance that may cover this?

I'd 100% get someone else round to have a once over and let you know what could've been the problem, before they cover it up.
Once covered up it may look alright but might fall to pieces shortly after.

I haven't paid them anything, they won't even answer the phone so I'm in a situation where I really do need to find out whether I should give them something or if the whole sub base is no good.
