Kalypso Media announces Patrician IV, the next installment in the long-running The Patrician series of strategy games, which is planned for release this fall. The game is in development at Kalypso Media's Gaming Minds Studios, which includes members of the original Patrician development team, as Kalypso purchased the IP along with other assets from defunct developer German developer Ascaron Entertainment last year. A teaser trailer from the game is available, and the Patrician IV Website is online. Word is: "In Patrician IV , the player takes on the role of a young merchant in the area of the Baltic and North Sea during the late Middle Age, the zenith of the Hanseatic League and its naval trading empire."

Instant buy? , i'm a HUGE patrician fan :D

I've spent many an hour building trading empires in the Baltic (and Carribean in Port Royale) so I'm very much looking forward to this.

I'll definately be watching this with interest :D

Coooool! Reminds me of that classic game pirates where we would spend weeks sailing the carribean and abusing a very simple maths equation to win... :D (yeah i learnt how to "hack" the game files with all the multipliers for cargo in it)

I'm unaware of this series, I take it it's good then?

The trailer makes it look a bit like the Anno series, how does it compare?

Create a medieval trade empire and expand in to encompass the whole Old World. Build warehouses, workshops, brickworks and much more to strengthen your financial position in the Hansa. Gain reputation in your hometown by developing its infrastructure with roads, hospitals, schools and become Lord Mayor thus gaining full control of the city. Be a famous pirate killer... Or become one yourself!

Anno has borrowed its main idea's from the original Patrician in all fairness.

The Patrician was a single or multiplayer (on same PC) trading game which sort of felt like elite but with Galleons. You started off with a basic ship and small lump of cash then you sailed the seas trading various goods to various ports building up your wealth, take quests and fight off Pirates gaining reputation. Although it sounds quite basic there was a lot of depth and tons to do and it had that addictive quality most games don't seem to have these days.

It was a truly fantastic game and there have been follow ups however I don't know how good they are..

The original was one of the finest games from the Amiga days, utterly, utterly absorbing and created such an atmosphere with minimal graphical requirements. I will definitely look at this release.

To the bath house anybody? I've got the bribes :p:D

One of the best trading sims this year! , it's better than the originals which i didn't expect!. Even though the originals were great , what i like about this is not just the graphics. But game is so easy to get to grips with and with this version you can have your captains autotrade for the best prices!. :D

Since playing it for awhile i thus got very bored of the game , it is so easy to make money that once you make money it becomes a grind. Tutorials are played as videos in game and thus it's really easy to follow. Manual isn't that much of an interest , better off just loading the game and watching the in game tutorial videos while playing each mission.

Though u can play sandbox
