hi guys i have patriot viper ram 1600mhz stock trying to clock to 1866mhz as my 8350 supports it but im failing at ever point tried loose timmings as i was advised to but i think i could be going wrong as it is first attempt anyone overclocked these im starting to think there not up to it tbf

Have you increased the voltage? If you loosen the timings it isn't much worth increasing the speed though, what you gain one way you lose another.

i only losened timings as i cant boot otherwise yeah i put voltage to 1.55v they wont boot at 1866mhz 9-9-9-24 which is standard timmings so i was told to loosen off timings to see if i could boot then try to tighten up after any suggestions?

You can raise the voltage to 1.65v and try. Loosening timings often helps get higher speeds but what I mean is that you won't end up gaining anything really.

so im better off raising voltage on stock timmings to see a gain also will putting ram to 1866mhz gain me much in overall performance my 8350 is a 4.6ghz prime95 and intel stable

If you put the RAM voltage to 1.65v you may be able to boot it at 1866MHz, and if you leave it at the same timings you'll get a small increase, but nothing compared to a CPU overclock.

i just tried 1.65v and still no boot
I think i will leave it at 1600mhz if i wont see a big gain but thankyou for trying
would tightening timings at 1600 help at all?

Yup - try tightening them. But don't worry about it, higher RAM speeds have very little impact on anything. 4.6GHz on your CPU is nice though, and might get that up a bit further since you've got watercooling.

yeah im sure i can go higher clock, but staying here atm because im trying to find a gpu block for my 7970 gigabyte oc edition but as its not reference (well dont think so) i am drawing blank.
i dnt want to overclock cpu more till i have gpu in the loop as its gonna affect temps once gpu and cpu is on loop i will see what im dealing with temp wise then clock from there :)
i will play with the timings and report bk any idea where to start as im noob in ram clocking only just got my head round cpu clocking lol

Ok. Well my 1600MHz RAM has default timings of 10 10 10 27 and I can run it perfectly stable at 9 9 9 27 without any extra voltage. Like yours, I can't get it working at 1866MHz.

you could get it to work if you really slackened off the timings

maybe 11-11-11-30-2t and 1.55v-1.65v dram, also more cpu imc voltage from stock

But would I gain at these settings? I will give it a try after work and let u know how I got on

To get a gain at those timings of 11-11-11 etc you need to have the RAM at 2133/2400Mhz otherwise your going backwards.

yes that's true but its agood place to start, then try tightening the timings/adding more dram/imc voltage

I see your point slacken right off to be able to boot at 1866 then work on getting timmins tighter I thought ram overclocking was simple haven't been overclocking long so still learning
