Paul Scholes Testimonial

Why has he been relatively non-existent though? Surely it can't be due too many nights out?

The nights out seems like an illustration of his lack of application. When he is playing at the top of his game he is fantastic. He CAN dominate a midfield. Also he isnt a defensive midfielder although he has been played in that role.

He definitely does have something left but he might as well go out relatively on top than drift down the leagues.

Yeah i agree. Its just when you see him play well you think...........

It is the right thing though.

All the best to a true United Great.

History will make him a bigger star than the present ever did IMO. (That was a bit of a "candle in the wind" line going on there! Didnt mean that! "Goodbye Pauley Scholes, we never really knew you at all........"

Well end of a very special era. Blessed indeed to have such talent. It's easy to get all the red tinted glasses on and say he wasn't that special but when you get Zidane, Xavi, Iniesta and Rio Ferdinand saying he is the best of his generation then you have to take note.

I remember him scoring his 1st goal away to Port Vale in the league cup and the press going mad about how dare Fergie play the youngsters. 10 Premier League titles, 3 FA Cups, 2 Champions League Medals, 2 League Cups, 5 Charity Shields plus many more awards suggests otherwise, head and shoulders above his supposed England Peers in Gerrard and Lampard. Farewell to a genuine world class player.

Only the English national team could take such a talent, play him out of position, lead him into retirement and then make a complete ham fisted effort of asking him to come back!

Your not wrong mate

You have an A-Z of football greats coming out over time and saying "Scholes is/was a genius" yet somehow there his a constant stream of "he wasnt that good" and "he couldnt tackle" from domestic critics.

If Pele had been English he would be every saddled with the tag of "He never tested himself abroad". Messi would have been "shocking in the air" and Maradona would have been "who ate all the pies?!"

I used to say Scholes was crap and couldn't tackle, and only when he played against Arsenal. And that was just hoping he'd have a shocker, or get sent off because of the lack of tackling ability. :p

I obviously never believed myself, when I said he was crap. At his best, he's one of the best I've seen.
