Hey there,

I've just built myself a new pc, consisting of:

Opteron 146
DFI Lanparty SLI-D
2 gig Gkill PC4000
x1800xt 512mb
WD 320gb sata II hd

I'm having a problem when XP starts booting (on the screen with the scroll bar), it just sits there for over 40 secs not doing anything at all. The hard disk light is lit up, but there is NO activity. After 40 or so secs the hd starts grinding away and windows loads up as normal.

I have tried reformatting as I thought it mght be driver related, but even with no drivers installed it STILL does it.

Would anyone have any idea why this is? Its annoying the hell out of me.

Ta in advance.

is it just the bootup process is slow or generally. Im afriad your hd might be packing in. suggest you backup asap just in case.

I hope i am not hijacking but mine does exacily the same thing when i installed my new Samsung sata drive. I have only had IDE drives in the past so i am not sure whether it has something to do with that.

Do you have one IDE and an SATA drive like me or just one SATA drive that you've stated in your specification?

Ultim its a brand spanking new HD, and it works 100% fine the rest of the time.

kip02- I've have sata drives before, this is a new pc build so no old IDE drive in it. There is a IDE dvd-rw drive though.

DHCP- replied to wrong post? :P

Yup one of your network interfaces could be causing this. Make sure you disable any network interfaces you aren't using. And ensure those that you are using are properly configured.

That fact that the HD light stays on though suggests this could be something a little more sinister.

I highly doubt your HD is broken though...
