Quick question on the OcUK GeForce GTX 580 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card @ £399.98 inc VAT. Will that SLI with any other GTX580 even if its a 1536MB model? Reason I ask, I have 2 Zotac GTX580's 1536MB and was planning to put 1 of them in another PC and upgrade with the OCUK 3072MB model, but I want to make sure I will still get the full benefit of SLI & the extra memory for running at 2560x1600?

Edit: on a side note, is the extra memory on the above card only useful for running graphics at a higher resolution then 1920x1200? Or does it have other benefits as well?

if you can sli the 3gb one with the 1.5gb you only get 1.5gb of the ram usable per card so half will go to waste on the 3gb. not an expert so can't tell you if it'll work, but have read people say you 'loose' half the vram on the 3gb version(same thing if you were to xfire a 1gb 6950 with a 2gb 6950).

According to Nvidia you can't SLI cards with differerent memory sizes.

Can I mix and match graphics cards with different sizes of memory?
No. For example, an XXXGT 512MB cannot be paired with a XXXGT 1GB in an SLI configuration.

They never could be.

It was 6950's which could be flashed to 6970's.

if you're thinking about the xfx 6850 you're better off going for the £120 6870 in another thread.
