Well I have one of these and am happy... however, I'm really gagging to get settings maxed out on Oblivion, EQ2 and whatnot and I reckon the 256MB memory is probably the limiting factor - it's def not my E6300 as that's semi-bored running most games :D

Are the 8800s worth going for and is the price likely to drop soon? Would I see much difference in getting one of these?

you could get a GTS - the OCuk one of those is £270, and would show a big boost from a x1950 Pro. Plus you have DX10 in your back pocket for later...

I agree with melbourne720, the 8800GTS is very powerful.

Cheers chaps. Methinks I will take a look at it... A part of me would probably nag later though saying "Why didn't you get the GTX!?".

If I don't do it this month I'll definitely take a look next month as bonus time is upcoming :)

Well I would wait a while because the 8600s are also coming, as are R600/R610/R630 from the ATI side.

There's going to be plenty of choice, which naturally means plenty of price drops and people selling 8800GTS/GTX cards cheap as chips to keep on top of the latest gear. ;) Who knows, you might end up with easyrider's GTX. :p

Agreed... I was VERY set on getting a GTS until last night. Then I figure that that so much stuff is coming out.

I KNOW what people are about to say "but you can always wait" thats true, but I would rather wait till at the least I can see what ATI have in THIS generation. A refresh is the same basic stuff, just a bit faster. If I get Gen 1 for example of R600 and then gen 3 comes out 30 percent faster I wouldnt mind as much.

If I purchase an 8800 GTS 640MB and then the 320 ones comes out, around 190 pounds or something, then I would be upset ;)

Do you have enough case space for the very long 8800 cards? Do you have sufficient psu power?

Corsair 520W PSU at the moment in a Lian Li PC7+ case. So I'm not sure...
