Hey guys my mate had to take his iPhone back today cos he broke it and they swapped it straight over, but now he can't download any of the songs or movies he payed for without paying for them again! Apparently they are not on his iTunes on his pc as he downloaded them straight through his phone!

Any idea

EDIT: Quick google tho does seem to indicate that if you do suffer the entire loss of a collection you can get apple support to "disable" the old content, give you a new "key" for your account and redownload the files again - but this locks out ALL old files including any hes purchased since which would also have to be redownloaded. This is usually a "one time" offer tho if he does it again in the future he'd be out of luck.

There is no way he could move the songs off the PC and on to the iPhone.

iTunes syncs your library, so if he's lost songs it's because he a) forgot to backup or b) hasn't re-authorised the computer to play purchased content.

Applications can be re-downloaded for free, even though it appears you have to re-purchase them.

To echo Rroff. You can check your histroy and request a one time redownload for lost files. Then actively back up from then on. I did this with a HDD crash between backups for a single album and they were more than understanding. iTunes notified me I had some downloads later that day.
