Hello,
I need to pay in about 5/6 cheques from US banks that total about $1,000.

Does anyone have any reccomendations to what bank i put them into? (I'm currently with natwest but don't mind setting up a new account... i'm not in a rush to pay them in).

I've paid in us cheques before and natwest charge me to put them in. So this time i've saved up a few cheques and hopefully this'll mean i won't get charged more in total.

Also, wtf is up with the exchange rate:
http://www.google.com/search?q=1000+usd+in+gbp&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

"1 000 U.S. dollars = 529.661017 British pounds"
I thought it was higher than that!! :(

Us money is rubbish... :p
loo roll tbh.

As for OP, I think if you join the account up with Natwest (£10 a month or something) they don't charge you for paying in cheques in dollars/euros.. Might not be Natwest, and might not be true... hmmmm... will go a -googling.

Unfortunatly for people being paid in US$ the exchange reate at the moment is carp. For Holiday makers it is excellent though at almost $2 a £. Its just that US trade defecit and various other things are huge at the moment so the dollar isnt worth that much.

Will it be worth me waiting a month or two (or upto about 4 months), will it possibly change enough to make a difference for $1k -> £?

The US exchange rate has always been advantageous to the Brits for a while now. This time last year when I was there it was about 1.7 - I very much doubt it'll change enough for you to make that much more money from it. I hope it doesn't as I'm off to San Fran in Feb want to make sure it's still advantageous for me :p

I pay them thorugh Lloyds TSB , they charge about £8 per transaction , amount of cheques doesn't matter
